November 13, 2008: Ella on Fall

At the bus stop one recent morning.

Ella: Mama, do you know what all those trees are?

Me: Losing their leaves.

Ella: No, not what they are doing. What kind of trees they are?

Me: (its early) pause.........

Ella: Deciduous. They are deciduous trees. They lose their leaves. They are the opposite of evergreens. Does that make evergreens indeciduous?

Me: ...stunned silence.
